Family Sign Language and Raising a Deaf Child courses

This week we are launching our commissioned offer for our Family Sign Language and Raising a Deaf Child courses. This means that we can now offer these bespoke courses to more families in your local area via Zoom.

Our webpage lists more information which you can share with your CHSWG members and other relevant colleagues and we hope you will be interested in running these courses in your local area in the future.

National Deaf Childrens Society Youth Activity Autumn Programme and other matters

Hello, we hope you are well!

Following the success of our Summer digital programme, and with COVID still hanging around, we have planned a full and fun packed autumn online programme for deaf children & young people aged 8-18 years!

These sessions will enable deaf children & young people to meet and engage with deaf peers and become more independent and confident by learning and achieving a new skill – all from home, via Zoom!  All they need is access to a laptop / tablet to log onto Zoom to join the fun.  Applications are NOW OPEN!

To help promote the events, and to ensure we reach as many deaf children & young people as possible, we would be very grateful if you could please share the information with your contacts, so they can check out what’s coming up this October – including half terms in Scotland, England and Wales!

Street Dance Workshop with Billy Read (ages 8-15 years)

Join us and Deaf dancer Billy Read - a fresh, exciting choreographer, and an inspiring teacher of dance.  Billy will lead an hour workshop teaching step by step street dance.  Open for all abilities.

How are you Feeling?  Let’s talk about how to manage Mental Health (ages 14-18 years)

During this workshop young people will get to share experiences, learn about strategies to help them manage / promote health and well-being, and discuss any worries in a safe and deaf friendly environment.   The workshop will be led by SignHealth

Juggling & Magic Workshop (ages 8-15 years)

Time to learn the basics to become a juggling master, as well as get some tips on how to do some magic tricks - before you try them out on your family and friends!

Yumma Cooking with Yvonne Cobb (ages 8-15 years and 14-18 years)

Join deaf chef Yvonne to create your own pizza (CYP to make dough in advance) and bake some tasty chocolate Swirls.  Share them, or eat yourself - choice is yours!

Big Quiz Night In (ages 8-15 years)

We are hosting a Big Quiz Night in for deaf children where they can take part in different rounds such as Music, Celebrities, General Knowledge and Logos!   Bring your brains, dancing shoes and your teddy bears/mascots along for a great evening for everyone!
