Roles and Duties on Health to cooperate - Designated Medical Officer (DMO)

The SEND Code of Practice gives clear information on the responsibilities of health services and this includes a commitment to support and develop the EHCP process, joint commissioning of new services and the creation of the Local Offer. 

There is a duty to provide a lead professional, known as the Designated Health Officer, to co-ordinate this work.

Designated Medical Officer (DMO)
(0-25years)

The DMO role is a key element in supporting the health service in its implementation of the Children and Families Act. Walsall have appointment a local DMO to support with this work.

Key responsibilities of the role include general oversight, coordination and strategic contribution.

We recognise that it is important that your local DMO has the clinical knowledge, system knowledge, data, information and professionals skills to carry out this role successfully.
