Tax Help for Older People

Tax Help for Older People

A free and confidential service for people approaching 60 or older, who live on an income of under £20,000 per annum. Our team of well-trained staff are based in Dorset and provide tailored help and advice on personal tax issues as they affect older people. They are supported by over 450 expert volunteers who provide our face to face appointments throughout the whole of the UK. We work closely with Age UK and Citizens Advice Bureaux, many of whom allow us to use their premises for local appointments.

Our aim is to help you understand your personal tax affairs and to help you work with HMRC so that you can resolve issues and pay the right amount of tax.

We can help you work out:

  • if you’re due a refund
  • if the tax you have paid is correct
  • if your tax codes are correct
  • why HMRC have sent you an underpayment notice
  • what the letter from HMRC means
  • you are completing the correct forms

Or help you to:

  • check your tax affairs during your retirement year/s or through bereavement
  • talk or write to HMRC and other organisations
  • go online to access your information
  • question why something has happened
  • understand the tax implications of decisions – like pension freedoms
  • appeal or complain
