Walsall Group of the Ramblers

A local group of the nation-wide Ramblers organisation we walk once a week, (usually on Sundays), at locations in and around the Midlands.

We want to both show those who are new to walking the health benefits of joining us and also the beautiful parts of the countryside that can be accessed on foot.

Membership of the Ramblers enables members to walk with any of the 500+ other groups in the country.

We welcome potential new members by encouraging them to come on a maximium of 3 walks with us before applying to become members.

Therefore we have short walks on alternate Saturdays and 'Leisure walks' on alternate Sundays to 'Main walks'.  The short Saturday walks are on Main walk weekends."

"Short Saturday walks - These are about 4 miles in length and are for those who either are new to walking or have perhaps not walked for a while. These are designed to gently encourage potential new members to try us out in a safe and friendly atmosphere. These walks are generally held within about 30 minutes of travelling time from Walsall itself

Other notes

We try to vary the types of walks we provide and also aim to keep as many of our members walking as possible. Therefore we have 'Leisure Walks' on alternative Sundays to 'Main Walks'.

Leisure Walks - These range up to 7.5 miles in length and are generally taken at a slower pace than our Main Walks - the aim being to allow some time along the way to look at anything of interest that may be along our route, (churches, views, historical sites, etc.).

Main Walks - Generally average about 10 miles or more and are often in slightly more rugged terrain. They can be walked a little faster that Leisure Walks, but often include great views and open spaces.

All our walks have been checked-out by the Walk Leaders involved, so they are in a position to tell those intending to come along what they can expect to encounter.
