Do you want to gain fitness, Coordination and Awareness of the body as well as Confidence & Self Esteem while learning a Self Defence? Well Aikido is a great martial art to do all that.
West Midlands Aikido Association Dojo is solely a Aikido Dojo with a permanent mat dojo of 300 Sq mtrs based in Brownhills Walsall. We are a not for profit club that practice traditional Aikido that is also called Iwama or Takemusu style Aikido.
Our style teaches strong basics, accuracy of technique and posture and also a heavy emphasis on weapons (Aiki Ken and Aiki Jo). Our Aikido has not attempted to change or update the teachings of O’Sensei (Morihei Ueshiba), the founder of Aikido and we follow this path in our daily training/classes.
Aikido is uniquely suitable to both men and women and children as a effective method of self-defence because it is not based on muscle mass, strength or aggression. Its clever principles of absorption and redirection are designed to neutralize an attack and keep one out of harm’s way. Aikido employs effective self defence techniques that can be applied to someone of any size, weight or build. Its techniques aim to blend with the attacker’s energy and use it to control or throw them. The practice of Aikido not only provides you with a rich repertoire of effective self-defence techniques and physical training, but also offers you a path for mental and spiritual development. This makes it a perfect self defence for men, women & kids
West Midlands Aikido Association has strong links within the UK and internationally including Japan with other recognised Aikido groups.
All members and instructors are British Aikido Board recognised and vetted. The British Aikido Board is the only governing body for Aikido in the UK.
