Walsall Enablement Service - Rethink Mental Illness

Walsall Enablement Service - Rethink Mental Illness

The Walsall Enablement Service is a community-based service, designed to help you build independence and improve health and wellbeing by becoming an active participant in your local community. Through the provision of “SafeSpace” groups, Coffee & Cope groups, Living Life To The Full (a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy based workshop), signposting services, individual emotional support and volunteering opportunities, our dedicated team will do all we can to support and empower you to enhance your recovery journey. Our aim is to improve wellbeing and prevent mental ill health among adults in Walsall through personal development and relapse prevention. We have a telephone helpline open to anyone living in Walsall who needs support/signposting. We are mainly a 9am-5pm Monday-Friday service, although we can work in the evening/weekends if there is demand, so please check with staff. If you would like support, please call us: 01922 707862.

What we do:

SafeSpace - SafeSpace is a small, staff-led session which has been set up for people struggling with mental health issues and social isolation. There is always a member of staff at these sessions, and we currently offer three per week.

“I have got to know people, and SafeSpace allows me to interact with other people in a safe and confidential environment that offers self-help”

Coffee and Cope - These are peer-led groups out in the community for those wanting support, to meet new people and to socialise. We currently offer four a week with plans to offer more in different areas.

“Coffee and Cope provided a good opportunity to go out into a public place where you know you are going to be around likeminded people”

One-To-One Emotional Support - A friendly listening ear to anyone who may be experiencing mental health issues. For clients, we can offer ‘graded-exposure’ support on public transport, as well as supporting to appointments that may otherwise be difficult.

“Through the one-to-one emotional support I received, staff were able to steer and guide me towards coping and solving issues and problems”

Living Life To The Full - An eight-week CBT-based workshop which aims to equip clients with more positive thinking strategies and ways to look at problems in a more productive way.

“Having attended this workshop I have learned to take life bit-by-bit in ‘chunks’ and it helped me to highlight areas of my life that I needed to change and gave me the tools to make that happen”
