Walsall Befriending Service

As a finalist in the 2017 national learning disabilities and autism awards, the befriending service offers a pathway of support to reduce social isolation and increase confidence and social skills in adults with autism.

There are two elements to the support available.

  1. You can access 1:1 befriending opportunities, where you will be matched with a befriender and supported to go out into the community once a month to take part in acitivites of your choosing.
  2. We also offer monthly groups that you could access as part of the service.  There are social groups where you would go out into the community to do an activity, or a topic group where you would get the opportunity to take part in a discussion and learn more about your autism.

Support can last for up to two years dependent on individual needs.

Eligibility criteria:

  • 18+ with a confirmed diagnosis of autism,
  • Living in Walsall local authority

Notes

Details of the venue will be provided once an individual makes a referral.  We are centrally located in Walsall but we do not offer a drop in service, and so all those attending must first have an appointment booked with a member of staff; This would be done after an individual completes and sends in a referral form for the programme.
