Walsall Information, Advice & Support Service (SEND) (formerly Walsall Parent Partnership Service)

If you have concerns about special educational needs (SEN) we can provide:

Free, impartial, confidential information, advice and guidance for parents/carers of children with SEN. and guidance for young people with SEN in education aged 16 – 25.  

We offer:

  • Accurate, impartial and up to date information and guidance on SEN  via telephone, and email
  • Where necessary face to face meetings to discuss  difficulties and options available and help you make informed choices
  • Help in understanding  your rights, role and responsibilities with regard to your child’s education
  • Help with preparing for and where possible support at meetings with the school or the local education authority
  • Support with communicating with professionals with regard to your child’s SEN e.g. writing letters, emails and telephone calls
  • Support to achieve positive outcomes at meetings and reviews about your child
  • Help in understanding professional reports  with regard to your child’s SEN  
  • Advice on systems, procedures and processes related to SEN
  • Guidance on Statements of SEN and Education Health and Care Plans (EHCP’s)
  • Help with resolving  disagreements with schools and the local authority in regard to SEN, including appeals to the SEN Tribunal
  • Information on Health and Social Care policies and procedures
  • Advice, information and guidance about transition at each educational stage
  • Advice, information and guidance in regard to Post 16 options for young people with SEN
  • Workshops, drop in sessions and information events at various venues within the borough on topics related to SEN
  • Signposting to other support services including Admissions, Exclusions, Short Breaks, Support Groups and other relevant local and national organisations
  • Access to parenting programmes and other services and organizations in Walsall

 Independent Parental Supporters (IPS):

  • From time to time we are able to offer support from an Independent Parental Supporter (IPS). IPS’s are volunteers who have completed training provided by the Parent Partnership Service.  They are able to meet with parents/carers informally to talk through any difficulties  and in some circumstances accompany parents/carers to meetings with the school or local authority. IPS support is subject to an IPS being available when requested.

    The Service currently has a team of two volunteers.

Parents/carers have been supported with information, advice, and guidance in regard to educational issues by Parent Partnership Services for many years and this support will now be extended to young people aged 16 to 25. Furthermore the service will now be able to offer information about health and social care provision in regard to the new Education, Health and Care Plans

Our service is confidential and therefore information relating to a particular child, young person or family will not be discussed without the prior permission of the parent/carer or young person. However, the support we provide may be limited if we are not able to discuss your problems with other professionals involved. The only exception to this is in cases where the information we receive indicates that a child/young person is at risk then we have a legal obligation to pass on any concerns regarding child protection to the relevant agencies.
